I called the 877 number. Bar Careers. "For only $39.95, we will set you up
with interviews in your area".
I asked if this was a "one-time" fee. It is good for 30 days. Then, "for only
$39.95, we will set you up for the next months payment".
First time, shame on you.
Second time, shame on ME.
I am in Minnesota. They are in California. "We have eleven openings in the
Twin City area".
First of all, who the f**k would call California to find a bartender in
Minnesota!
Second of all, who the f**k would call California to find a bartender in
Minnesota! (Redundant, yes. But worth it!)
In my area (Maplewood, MN) for a radius of about 15 miles, there are over 400
bars, clubs, bar/restaurants and Chi Chi's, Outback, Olive Garden, etc. (I
know, I've stopped in, left my name or filled out aps at almost ALL of them).
Another thing. Bar owners/managers should be blunt about what they are looking
for. I'm a straight-forward kind of guy. I don't beat around the bush or
sugar-coat anything (it has gotten me in trouble a FEW times). TELL ME YOU'RE
LOOKING FOR EXPERIENCE! TELL ME YOU'RE LOOKING FOR CLEAVAGE! STOP WASTING MY
TIME (AND YOURS) LEADING ME ON TO ONLY DROP ME AND MY HOPES OFF THE MOUNTAIN
OF DREAMS!!
(Suddenly, Jerry realizes he's starting to rant and blushes as he offers his
appologies).
Back to the matter at hand, the 877 number.
I feel (my first impression) that this is a company (or individual) that
subscribes to major newspapers, searches out the "bartender wanted" ads and
hooks people up that don't buy the paper or pound the pavement. In my opinion,
they have no "pull" with any establishment looking for a bartender.
Anyway, I have a bartending job every-other weekend at a high-class steak
house. It's a start and the owner (Grant) is a Gem of a Guy!
I'll start doing private parties, weddings and poker parties for friends and
family to get some experience (I for damn sure ain't getting a cleavage!).
Thanks for your help guys.
Jerry
