"Rail" drinks refer to whatever brands a bar carries in its speed rail (as
opposed to "premium", "top-shelf" or "super-premium"), and are usually the
cheapest in the bar. They tend to be used for customers who simply order a
"Vodka and Coke" or "Gin and Tonic", without specifying a particular brand.
The usual liquors covered by this are gin, vodka, rum, tequila, scotch,
bourbon - although naturally there are bar/regional variation on this theme.
They're also known as "rack" or "call" drinks.
Hope this answers it for ewe.
