Look, it's all pretty simple. I went to the MN School of Bartending. I feel I
could have got the same knowledge sitting at a bar watching an "experienced"
bartender do his/her job. Buy a couple drink recipe books, memorize the
basics. If you really want a job at a certain bar, go there every day/night.
Listen to the drinks people order and memorize those drink recipes. Get a
couple empty bottles and pourers and practice, practice, practice.
On a personal note, if you are over 40 (I'm a 41 year old man and bald), don't
hold your breath on getting a job. I can't tell you how many times I've heard
experience or seeing the new bartender that was hired instead of me has a
cleavage.
The female bartender brings in the guys. The female bartender flirts with the
guy. The guy buys another round. The bar owner smiles. The female bartender
flirts. The guy tips. Everyone (that matters) is happy except the guy who has
to go home (almost broke) to the wife.
I'm thinking of doing private parties. Anyone have advise?
Thanks for letting me on the soap box.
Jer
