Natrones' advice is accurate and well worded. Take some time and give these
forums a good read, almost all of your questions will be answered by doing
this.

As many of the readers here know, I am not an advocate of bartneding school.
You can read why in a recent bartending school thread, I will not waste my or
your time by going into it yet again here. However, I have been swayed by
some good arguement of the part of a couple individuals here, to take it a
little easier on bartending schools and their graduates. There are many ways
to learn, and just as long as you learn, then it gets the job done.

One of the biggest complaints I have heard is that even though schools promise
placement, very rarely can get you a job. Keep that in mind. Be prepared to
spend some time trying to find a position, and it my not be ideal (when is it
ever?). Keep in mind that many people want to be bartenders because it looks
fun and lucrative, your competition for a job can be quite tough!

Last of all, what are your expections of a bartending job? Why do you want to
bartend? Are you willing to deal with complete morons? To clean vomit out of
uninals? To stay till 5 Am cleaning? Some of these things you will run into,
some maybe not, but all are bar of the "oh so glamorious" job. I wish you the
best of luck, you are starting off on the right foot by being here. Combined,
I would hazard a guess, but there is about 200+ years of experience, just in
our regular posters, doh't be afraid to ask questions.
