I started working at this really high volume bar in boulder colorado that
caters to all the wild college students, and although ive tended bar in denver
im being forced to work up from barback. now at my other jobs on a busy night
a barback would make 150-200$ in tips. This job in Boulder has this system
where no matter how busy the barback is they get 60$ thats it. Now they wont
even put on the barback unless its really busy so if im working its real busy.
I just was wondering is this normal. tthere is four bartenders working and im
seriously running my $#% off. I know that the bartenders are making at LEAST
250-300$ each, and then tipping me out 15$ each to make the wopping 60$ I
make. Does this sound F&^^%$ed up to any one else. Am i crazy for thinking im
being taken advantage of, and basically allowing the bartenders to make great
tip money since they can socialize and get that extra buck since they dont
have to worry about glasses or ice or kegs. we did nearly 8000$ in sales in
four hours last night and I was the only barback on. My hands are stiff today
form washing four glasses at a time. where the hell did they get the number 60
from anyhow, it seems completely arbitrary. Does anybody think this is normal,
and also what do you think is just compensation for the barback.
