a 'part' can be anything really

1 part = 1oz
1 part = 1 shot
1 part = 1 cup
etc.etc.....

You get the idea, if the recipe states...
1 part vodka
2 parts orange juice
and you are using a 1oz jigger as a measure then the correct mix would be...

1oz vodka
2oz orange juice

sorry for the long-winded answer to a simple question!
