Hey everyone,

I'd just like to ask a few of you yankee 'tenders a couple of questions that
have been botherin me this past few.

Im headin to New York in May to hopefully work as a bartender, i know my
chances are slim but ill hopefully be set up in that respect before i get on
the plane.

first, can somebody tell me what a "server" is, i mean what the difference
between a server and a bartender is? do they get payed well?

Here in Ireland we have bartenders, barbacks and waiters. the rest are just
general floor staff who do all the rest. its puzzled me as to figure out what
a server is.

second, i regard myself as an experienced bartender. i love my work and i am
very passionate about it, i am confident that i well be able for whatever the
states throws at me, but the one thing that intimidates me is the sheer amount
of drinks n recipes on demand. Is this an integral part of becoming a
bartender? i mean i know way more about cocktails than what is needed in this
country. id know most classics, and most of the common ones, but everytime an
american comes into my bar, they ask for something that ive never heard of
before. Once i have the recipe to a drink i can make it perfectly, i am very
particular in that respect so im not worried about that, its just the whole
recipe thing.

thirdly, i know that the law in the US is 21 for drinkin, but whats the legal
age to work in a bar? ive had numerous answers to this query, if anyone knows
for sure what it is in NYC could ya tell me or does anyone know where i could
find out?

I greatly appreciate your help you guys, thanks again.

Jaykon
