I have been looking for a bartending job for around six months.
Although many employers rather hire females over males, I feel the best way to
keep your skills sharp fellas, is to work for a catering company. This has
been my employment while I have been looking for a bartending job. The shifts
I get with this company are anything from corporate parties, weddings, to
celebretie events. To work with them you need to be efficent in all areas of
serving not just bartending, which I feel employers are looking for. Also
these events are great to keep your skills sharp. I have bartended events for
parties ranging from 30 to 1500 people, all have been "open bar" service.
Having worked these parties have given me more comfort for the day I get a
shot bartending at regular establishmen, where there is money to pay for
drinks. I feel it will be a slower pace than a "open bar."
Also some tips and comments I have recieved on my resume. I
mentioned earlier that I feel employers do like to know thier employee is well
rounded in service industy, not just one part of the business. So if you do
get hired as a busser or barback, I say take it. I feel if you want the best
experience in the industry and being hired on the spot, start out with a
catering company. They will want and give incentive for you to learn all
aspects of service, which includes barbacking, cocktailing, bartending, ect.
This will give you the experience to make a killer resume. Also if you are
good with computers to leave a picture of yourself that is visiable somewhere
on the resume. Employers see hundreds that are after the same job as you,
whats going to reminded them of you that instant they are looking at your
resume, a picture!
Hope some of this info helps guys, and good luck!
