Door knocking // Cold Calling

Barbacking seems like the best bet for me at this time as a "slammed" shift
would not work out well for me at this time. A week or two of day shifts would
be fine to warm me up, but I can't count on that. So I'll barback to get my
foot in the door of a good place.
I'll really need to get myself "out there" more than what I've done. There
just aren't that many ads in the paper.
I need to create my own leads. I figure I'll hit up the beach bars/reataurants
that are picking up at this time of year.
When I've filled out aps between 1-4 I've not meet too many bar managers. If I
go later the managers are busy. There's usually some kind of shift meeting
when they get in, and that's followed up w/happy hour.
So what's the best time to show up asking for work? Perhaps weekends?
Also, would it be a good idea to canvas by phone? I can call many more bars
than I can drive to in a day.
Hank
P.S. Does this sound OK?:
"I'm not the most experienced bartender in the world, but I'd be happy to
barback untill I earn a position pouring. I find this to be a fun place with a
great atmosphere, and I'd really like to be a part of it."
