Your audience really is a big factor. Get what you think your friends will 
drink…  
I would get a few different types of alcohol and mixers, (depending on your 
budget/audience~vodka, gin, tequila, rum, triple sec, jager) then generate a 
list of maybe 10 or so popular drinks for people to choose from.

My audience is the college age crowd.  Where the focus is more on getting 
drunk.  In the first hour or so, between the jagerbombs and redheaded sluts, 
the Jagermeister was gone within the hour.  Long island ice teas were a 
favorite of the night, then just followed by various club type shooters.
