it does change the drink drastically.  layered shots are strictly for looks, 
however when you sip from a layered drink as you progress down in the drink it 
will change it's character.  i.e. a layered cocktail with discrete layers will 
taste different as you go through the drink, where as s shaken version of the 
same will be entirely different.  this can be a good or a bad thing.  

and if it's not a shot, you sip it.
