

1. Until you have some tangible experience, learning recipes may seem like
memorizing a foreign language or learning multiplication tables. Learning
acronyms can be a handy way of memorizing drinks and I think you will have the
best luck making up your own. Acronyms, for me at least, seem to "stick" best
when they mean something to me.
2. As a side note, try to look for patterns while you are memorizing drinks -
similarities among Seabreeze, Baybreeze, and Madras or Martini and Gibson or
Manhattan and Rob Roy.
3. I have also had good luck memorizing everything from French verbs to drink
recipes using flash cards - it may help you recognize patterns you might not
see in a book. I have also been able to work with flash cards while driving or
waiting in lines.
4. Lastly, most bartending schools give you one way to make the drinks, but
certainly not the ONLY way to make drinks. For me to give you the "secrets" to
my recipes might not help you learn what you need to to pass.
