Subject: New Cocktail: Cosmopollution (for queneau)

ok, I also picked up the queneau challange, don't kick me off the board for
this one...

i'm not entirly serious, i am a newbie, and feel, like in cooking, it is best
to start off with existing recipes, before altering them, or inventing yuor
own.
i do not have the guts to invent anything myself. yet.

part one:
it annoys me to hear all those people starting a cocktail recipe by: "one
night we were so drunk so we mixed..."
but this is sort of how my story goes, one night not long ago, i held my first
cocktail party for my friends, so i may learn how to mix drinks. all based on
vodka (now i am really going to get kicked off the board...) but most were
pretty "classic drinks".

anyway, i attempted to make the "petit zinc", unfortunatly i failed to realize
the red vermouth, that had sat for years in a closet, was probably bad.
the petit zinc came out very interesting, bitter - due to the spoiled martini
russo. i am embaressed to say, i really liked it.
a few days later i smelled some of the vermouth and realized it was very very
BAD.

part two:
i am a regular reader of an israeli "wine and alcohol" forum. one of the
readers started a thread on amusing mistakes people make when ordering drinks,
ordering things like "alligator vodka" (which sounds very similar to "fig
vodka" in hebrew), and a girl who ordered a... "cosmopollution".

that got me thinking on my new cocktail:

Cosmopollution
1 vodka
1/2 cointreau
1/2 spoiled red vermouth ("aged" in your cabinet).
1/2 fresh lemon juice
shake with cracked ice and strain into a cocktail glass, garnish with a BLACK
olive (the polluted effect)

as you see it's almost a petit zinc, apart from lemon instead of orange, and
the vermouth business.

now, before you kick me out of here, it's kind of an interesting drink (if you
do not know that the bitter taste comes from something spoiled), and there is
no need for bitters... :-)

i can already tell that this drink will become a big hit, because everyone
hates cosmopolitans, it's an excellent way to tell everyone, "i am too cool
for one of those!"
such "aged" vermouth will be hard to find, since no one uses spoiled vermouth!
and thus the cocktail will be expensive.
being expensive and rare, everyone will want it:

New York Bartender: "So, what will it be?"
Girl: "I'll have a Cosmopolitan."
New York Bartender: "And another one for your trendy girlfriend?"
Trendy Girlfriend: "Hell no! I'll have a Cosmopollution!"
New York Bartender (smiles): "That'll be $15."
Other Girls in bar: Oooo... Oooo.. whats that? We'll have one too!

well, thats it.
