Sweet vermouth is an aromatic wine, so it can make an entire glassful (30 cl) of apple juice taste like cider or wine. So, mixing vermouth and apple juice gives a drink that tastes like flat cider. What's the point? Fernet Branca, on the other hand, is difficult to dilute. The dilutant must have a strong taste too, because pouring some watery liquid on Fernet gives an unpleasantly bitter, watery drink. Thus, mix these. You'll get a cooler that's aromatic and not overly sweet. 4 cl Fernet Branca 4 cl? sweet vermouth Fill with apple juice and ice.
