Outside of the good US of A is a place called England. It's a strange land
where different rules apply. I don't think what I did over the past 10 years
is unusual in the uk so i'll give my drinking history and my thoughts about
it.
Age 11 - Dad offers me a sip of his beer - "Not sure i like the taste but
it's kind of nice and frothy?"
Age 13 - On holiday, allowed a bacardi and coke after dinner while parents
are having a few drinks. - "This is nice!!!!"
Age 13+ Fri/Sat night with parents before meal, 2 G&T for them and
spirit/mixer for me. "Nice"
Age 14 - Cider. Mates. Local Park. "I'm best part of 6 foot, look oldest of
group, no prob getting serverd at offi."
Age 16 - Served in pubs "no prob."
Age 17 - City centre bars, clubs etc. "No probs"
Age 18 and onwards - tried a lot of drinks, now know what i choose to drink.
Still get drunk, still do silly things, but can apreciate the finer things.
There are people here who have bartended a LOT longer than my 7 years, however
i don't think it matters 18 or 21, it's what happens after starting that
sculpts your future drinking life.
