A few weeks ago, I too recently graduated from bartending school; it took me
about two weeks to find a job for a few reasons:

1. This would only be a summer job, and most places needed something more
temporary.
2. Lack of experience.
3. My age and the way I look...although age discrimination is illegal, most
places look at me and think "he looks too young, so I'll jut tell him that the
job is filled". This happened to me today...I am looking for another job
because the current bar that I am at is horrific (I just took the job to get
experience). I went to this one restaurant that I knew needed a bartender,
but when I got there they told me that the position had been filled. I read
the guy's body language and response and knew that he was lying. When I got
home, I called the restaurant and asked if the position had been filled, I was
told that they were still looking for a bartender. What an asshole the first
guy was...I immediately thought "just give me a chance, I could mix ten drinks
better and faster than you can mix one, you fat P.O.S."

Solutions:
1. Don't say it's just for the summer. When you leave at the end, just say
your father is being transferred to a different city.
2. Say you've worked private parties...you have some experience, but can be
given leeway with the cash register and stocking the bar.
3. Call ahead of time so when you go in, you know the truth.

Good luck.
