-------------------------
The Negroni is a wonderful cocktail. One of my favorites. I often make it
using aquavit instead of gin, since I find the caraway flavor of the aquavit
goes a lot better with the Campari then the juniper flavor of the gin.
Of course, you have to sort of like Campari before you will truely appreciate
the Negroni. Campari is one of those things that most people hate the first
time they try it, but if they give it a few tries, they will (usually)
eventually learn to love it.
Imagine takeing somebody that knew nothing but "Bud Light", then give them a
Guiness... chances are that they will take two sips and then push it aside as
being undrinkable. But if they try a couple more times, they will soon learn
that it was the Bud Light which is undrinkable :->
A good drink to get "exposed" to Campari with is the Jasmine:
1 1/2 ounces gin
1 ounce Cointreau
3/4 ounce Campari
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
Shake with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass
Tastes a little like grapefruit juice.

No insult intended, but if I went to an Italian restaurant and didn't see a
bottle of Campari behind the bar, I'd be slightly suspect of their
authenticity. If I saw Campari, I'd next look for Cynar, Strega, and Averna...
If I saw those, then I'd know I was in the right place.
