Yeah, Jeannie and Joe both make you think that getting the job is the easy
part, and that's completely backwards...especially where we're located. Yes,
there are a innumerable amount of bars in our area, probably more than any
other "suburbia" in the U.S. due to our closeness to the Hudson River,
BUT...they have ALL been worked in a million times over by so many different
bartenders trying to make their mark. Basically, we have alot of opportunity,
but at the same time it's extremely competitive. So stick with it, and GET
EXPERIENCE...ANYWHERE. Your "admitted" sweet looks (good for you) can get you
a long way if you bring along some (bartending) brains with it. Who cares
about the first place you work...you'll forget all about them and their shitty
DJ's in the future...bite the bullet and use them for what they can teach you.
(jus' like a steppin' stone...)

As for American Bartenders School, I know that they do get into the trade and
it's "culture" a little more than other places, and the others' in our area
I've heard use fake ice, and really don't offer the amount of knowledge than
Joe and Jeannie do. So don't feel bad about spending a little more $ than the
other places, because you will make that $ back before you know it when you
get a place to work. They weren't lying about that. I actually believed that
bullshit line too "you'll have a job lined up before the 2nd week!" Then by
the 2nd week you were thinking so much about the drinks you're trying to learn
that you don't even think about trying to get a job yet, then you graduate and
you're ON YOUR OWN... I work a 9-5 office job mon-fri, so I was out at least
3 times a week going EVERYWHERE I could in Clifton, Wayne, Pompton Lakes,
Montclair, West Orange, Nutley etc...dropping off my resume and talking to
managers and stuff. In that time I found out that telling them that I have no
experience was going to GUARANTEE that I didn't get the job. I finally
decided to bullshit and got the next job I applied for. I'm not the lying
type, so it was wierd, but it's the only way.

Hey, didn't that "colored" water they used for mixing drinks smell so f'ing
bad?!?! ...and Jeannie, whoa! she can talk, huh? :)
