Subject: New Bartender Frustrated w/"Exp. Prefered"

Serioulsy.......how can any one obtain experience, if they are not willing to
help you gain it??? I went to school for bartending; paid too much for the
class; they supposively said they help you find a job, but turn out that they
give you a piece a paper with numbers and web address to check out current job
listings. When I check them, it always says "Experience prefered." So far I
work one night in a club, which was ok, but I wanted to murder the DJ. The
thing was that, it was me and another girl with the same non-experience. The
manager made it almost like a competition between us where he'll see who
brings more people and sells more drinks. Well, I brought a decent amount of
people, she didn't. But ended up stealing half my tips!!!! I thought with
bartending that we all put all tips in a bucket or whatever and at the end of
the night, split it. Am I right??? My "debut" was on the 31st of Jan. The
manager said he picked me to work for the club alone. Good for me, more tips.
But he hasn't called since. What should I do?? I'm still looking around, but
experience a must. I live in Jersey, and 5-10 mins away from NYC, but I dunno
I should start there yet. HELP
