I bought a bottle of Mount Gay Extra Old rum and think it is a very good dark
rum. Wine Enthusiast gives it a 91 point rating, though I don't know what
other rums they've rated. It is about a $35 dollar 750 ML bottle of rum.
I also notice on www.bevmo.com that Wine Enthusiast gives the Appleton Rum
Estate 12 Years Old Dark rum 97 points. I really like the standard Appleton
rum, so would expect this to be very good as well. It is only $26.99 online.
Not bad.
Most rum drinks I end up making, however, seem to call for light rum... And
is there such thing as a "top shelf" light rum? I don't know. I use Bacardi
light.
