If you're serving wine, you probably wouldn't need a full keg of beer. If you're having any sort of liquor (which you should IMO), then you can easily feel safe in having less than an entire keg. However, if beer is the only choice, then 2 kegs might be in order. I also think it depends on how unruly you think the guests are likely to be. :-) I had an open liquor bar, cabernet and chardonnay with dinner (which I brought in myself and payed a "corkage fee"). By the end of the night my brother in law had passed out in the middle of the dance floor. But with all that, the total alcohol bill came in at about $2k for about 100 people. Another viable option, IMO, is to provide a limitted open bar, like at the beginning of the reception, before the meal. Then during and after the meal, people can pay for their own drinks. It cuts your costs, and prevents people from drinking too much. Just some thoughts.
