   One of the books that I bought when I started bartending, was the Complete 
Idiot's Guide to Mixing drinks.  This is a really good book.  There are a lot 
of books out there that have a lot more recipes than this one, but those are 
recipes that no one's ever used, very few have even ever heard of.  The book 
gives a quality run down on the history of spirits, history of some drinks, 
methods of preparation, etc.  Plus, there are some anecdotes featuring some of 
the biggest names ever in show business.  Names like John Barrymore, Frank 
Sinatra and Humphrey Bogart.  Check it out.  It's a good starting point.
