Oh honey, I feel your pain! I too have words of advice....
1. Smile. If you look like you're having fun and joking around people won't
get flustered if you seem like the new kid on the block. Plus you'll seem
friendly and laid back (even if out cry out in rage or frustration on the
inside)
2. Ask for help. You always watch the new guy stare blankly while they try to
recall one of the thousands of instructions they've been given. Don't waste
your or the customer's time..... co-workers will understand that you're still
a rookie and, if they're a god team, will want to help you out.
3. Go the extra step. Light a cigarette. Have pen handy for guys trying to get
numbers. Ask the other bartenders if they need anything. You just have to love
a nice bartender.
4. HAVE FUN!!!! I'm sure your manager doesn't think you're going to jump in
with two feet and be an expert swimmer. So tred water and get through it.
You'll learn the routine, the common drinks and the bar set up sooner than you
think and they'll have you on the high dive before you know it!
Best of Luck!
