I guess you can only be a kitchen bitch for so long before you're ready to
spead your wings and start dealing with customers!
I found myself in a very similar situation last year when I wanted to move
from floor staff to bar staff at one of my bars. At the time I was head
waitress, but the fact of the matter was there was more $$$ to be made as a
bartender and I had school to pay for.
What you need to do is throw your weight around a bit. Tell a white lie,
mention to your managers that you were talking to someone who offered you a
job working as both a bartender and a cook. Tell them that the offer is
tempting, but you really like where you're employed now. Then ask them if you
can start taking one or two bar shifts, mornings or slower nights, on top of
your kitchen schedual. They will probably realise that it's better to have you
on the bar and in the kitchen than looking for a new job, because the fact of
the matter is lots of bars would die to have someone who can do both. If you
picked up kitchen work that quickly, you'll probably become a valuable
bartender in no time and they'll be more than acomadating with your schedual.
Make them think that they can have a cook/bartender or nothing at all....
guess which on they'll opt for. But be prepared to get schedualed crappy bar
shifts and still work busy nights in the kitchen until everyone gets used to
your move.
Hope everything works out for you.....
