High traffic bars are more likely to hire barbacks, as in slower joints
tenders ususally back for themselves. Unfortunatley, the best high traffic
bars to find back jobs are sports bars and campus area bars, which have very
little in the way of cocktails mixed (altough you will learn a lot about the
other stuff). Best advice, get a regular gig at a campus or sports bar. Let
them know that you are interested in working primarily as a bar back (you
won't learn much abotu bartending serving chicken wings to a table of frat
guys across the room, altough most places will want you to do table service a
little but to help out). In addition to that, go to your local country clubs
and let them know that you are available to work behind the bar as a back for
their occasional high traffic events (as needed).
