as a barmanager i have 2 bartenders and one barback.
if we think again about why do a customer leaves extra money the answer would
be its for how good the service was...
whats the service i give as barmanager???
whats the service my 2 bartenders give??
what service does the barback give??
well if a good cocktail is served in a dirty glass or if the ashtrey in front
of the client is loaded with ashes .. he wont be tipping at all ...
on the other hand if the cocktail looks good and the bar where he is sitting
is clean ... he would be tipping more
another point of view its our service with a smily face leading an intresting
conversation makes the customer love us and woudl be a reasdon for tiping..
talkin about a good international cocktail its our duty to offer it at an
international standard which can be found the same everywhere so its not our
cocktail that makes them tip us.
so i think the barback should be tipped as equal as the barmanager... on my
bar our tips are independant of those of the floor...& i split them equally
between myself the 2 barenders & the barback whethere the barback was good on
that night or not.
another thing, a bad barback is sum1 who was mislead by his barmanager, he is
a guy who knows nothing about the job & doesnt know exactly what to do...
we all been barbacks & know how much harder the job was ...
i am always trying to make a one handed team behind my bar .. i clean the
space in front of my station if i have time... i beleive if u have the time to
lean then u have the time to clean ... a customer would enjoy seeing u
cleaning for him while u talk to him as the bartenders would take u as an
example for helping the barback on his work ... u cant imagine how my barback
is giving extra effort with a smile on his face ...
as a conclusion dearest sarah splitting the tips on fair shares would be better
