I'm not going to comment on bartenders from NYC, but when I was in Houston the
bartenders were horrible (and I still love Houston so I'm just saying it the
way it is).

I like a person who's honest. If I could turn back time I would have still
taken the bartending course, but wouldn't have had such high hopes about
getting a job.
I have to tell you what happened to me the end of last week. I applied at a
bar/restaraunt right near Brown University, which is next to Rhode Island
School of Design. I applied and the young hostess said they would call me
back. About a week goes by and they didn't call me. When I called a man with
an accent named Mario said that they have an agency that looks over the
applications. He would find out why and if they do not call me by tomorrow
evening to call him back. When I called he was surprised they didn't call me,
but told me they hired two people. I said when will they call. he said I
don't know but they will call. I said it's very frustrating in the last three
months I have applied for jobs three times and never had an interview. He
says I do not know what to say but do you think we are descriminating against
you? I said well I've spoken to some people and they say it sounds like age
descrimination. He said I'm sorry to hear that.
I spoke to my friend's wife who comes from El salvador and she said he would
have only said that if he knew it was descrimination.
