Hiya! I frequent the Jillian's in my town, in downtown Akron. Two friends of
mine are bartenders there, and both have their own issues with the place.
It's the typical stuff that you'll find at any bar, however - shift changes,
having to serve food, weird computer system, etc. They use a touch-screen
system there, which is hard to get used to sometimes. However, they both
make very decent money - raking in $200-$300 on a weekend night, after
splitting tips. As chains go, Jillian's is probably one of the easiest to
work for - it's not too rigid, and has enough base to make sure everything
will always run smoothly. And it will be a resume booster, I think. Their
bartenders are VERY professional, well-trained, very quick and friendly, and
work with the best. Since it is a chain, there's also opportunity for
management after a time, which is always excellent. The one by me is always
busy at night, but is very organized - you rarely wait for a drink, the food
is always excellent, and I've only had problems with waitress service once.
(can you tell this is one of my favorite places to go yet??) Anyways, I would
take it. Since it's a new opening, you know there's going to be little
problems to be smoothed out, but you also know that it's going to be JAMMED
for quite some time. Good luck, and congrats on the offer!
