Subject: Class or no class....

I'm kinda new here so forgive me if this question has been asked repeatedly.
At any rate, I'm basically stuck in a go-nowhere kinda job and I've been
wanting to be a bartender for awhile now. I've talked to different people and
gotten different reactions on what I should do. Some say that the school is a
total waste of money and doesn't really prepare you for big crowds and so
forth, while others say that barbacking is basically like cheap labor and that
you don't learn much by doing so. So, because I live in the Bay Area, the fees
are a bit higher ($695 for a two week course that also provides job placement)
but I think I could withstand the hit if it meant getting a better job, but
let me know what you think, maybe you can open my eyes to something I didn't
see before. Thanks for your time
