Firstly, do know that I feel rather embarassed asking this question. But I
would honestly appreciate a or several professional bartender's opinion(s)on
this topic. Ok- I recently purchased a "for home use" type ice shaver. (Not
at all what I was hoping for when I took it out of the box and tried it, by
the way.) I purchased and plan to use it for making summer drinks. (Frozen
Margaritas, etc.) The consistency it turns the ice into is rather "slushy",
which is fine, but I wonder if a)I should just stick with a blender instead
for making frozen drinks and b) if I am going to use this ice shaver, how
should I mix the ingredients? (Now don't laugh, here, I already mentioned
feeling embarassed about asking!) Since it's going to turn the drink more
slushy, should I just stir in the mix and ingredients, shake gently in a
cocktail shaker or just throw caution to the wind and put the darned stuff
into the blender on "Blend"? Anytime I use a blender for frozen drinks (using
regular ice cubes not ice that's been through a shaver), I tend to get a ton
of sharp little ice pieces rather than a decent consistancy. Am I just not
blending long enough or at a high enough speed (I normally have it on
"Frappe", though.) Okay - knowing I feel quite silly having asked (but I
honestly don't know!) - do any Pros have any tips for me for making frozen
drinks either with this apparatus or without it? Thanks! Any suggestions are
appreciated. Casey.
